How to Pass a CDL Test
A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is required for US drivers who wish to operate vehicles with a gross weight rating of at least 260001 lb or 11, 793 kg. The purpose will largely be commercial usage, which will include driving semis or big trucks, ambulances and school buses. Related law had been passed in 1986 and is regulated by the Department of Transportation, with the primary intention of ensuring highway safety. The act will be state specific but there are a few minimum federal requirements which need to be met before a license is issued.

In order to get your CDL, you will need to pass a series of tests, as specified by your state. These will essentially include a knowledge test where your skill set will be gauged in accordance with the type of vehicle license you want to acquire. Having aced that, you will then be required to pass a driving test with a CDL examiner in attendance.

For starters, obtain all the necessary information specific to your state. The requirements will vary from age to medical condition i.e. most states require you to be at least 18 years old and a resident of that state. Log on to the Department of Motor Vehicles website and find your state to review the necessary information.

You will be required to pay fees to take the specified tests. Moreover, application fee will also be charged. In order to know the exact amount, consult a DMV representative.

Start preparing for obtaining the CDL. This can only be done through the issued CDL training manual or handbook which contains all relevant information you need to know. You can either obtain the copy by visiting the DMV office or through their website.

Give your knowledge test. It will basically measure your knowledge about the laws in your state. At that moment, you will be also handing in the CDL application to the DMV office.

Upon passing the test, a learner’s permit will be provided to you, which will allow you to practice driving the intended commercial vehicle. However, most states require a CDL driver to accompany you.

After you are familiar with the driving aspects, give your driving skills test. You will need to contact the DMV office and get an appointment. The time frame for waiting will vary as most states can take up to 2 months to confirm the appointment.

When the scheduled date arrives, go the DMV office with the type of commercial vehicle you want to drive, such as a tractor or a school bus. If you are successful, you will be issued a CDL.
