How to Plan a Trip to the Seattle Asian Art Museum

The Seattle Asian Art Museum is located on the 1400 East Prospect Street, Volunteer Park, Seattle. The Museum has a wide collection of Asian artifacts and specimens. The Museum also occupies the Moderne Art building, which is also a designated landmark.

    Parking Space

    Parking is free around the Seattle Asian Art Museum. There are also two bike racks located on the street across the museum. You can easily find the bike parking site by heading towards the Black Sun sculpture, as they’re located on either side of it.

    Admissions

    To enter the museum you’ll have to buy tickets. However, entrance is free-of-charge on Free Days, which includes first Thursdays of the month, the second Thursday of the month (5:00 PM to 9:00 PM), the first Friday of the month (only for people aged 62 and above) and the first Saturday of the month (for families only). Apart from the Free Days the ticket cost for adult is $7.00. For students it’s $5.00, provided they have an ID card. For senior citizens and teenagers it’s also $7.00, while it’s free for children aged 12 and under.

    Tours

    Free public tours are organized throughout the week for the visitors, as the fee for the tour is already included in the admission ticket. These guided tours last about 60 minute per session. Private tours can also be booked, but for that you would have to contact the administration three weeks prior the planned date.

    Attractions

    The museum’s collection composes of specimen and artworks representing the Asian history and culture. The Gardner Centre for Asian Art and Ideas provides lectures and is a great place to learn for those interested. Apart from the learning element, the museum also has a souvenir shop selling Asian merchandise known as SAM Shop and a cafe that goes by the name of Taste Cafe. The museum also has its own research library, which is known as the McCaw Foundation Asian Art Library.

    Open hours

    The museum is open from Wednesday to Sunday, while Monday and Tuesdays are off. The timing for museum from Wednesday to Sunday is 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM with the exception of Thursdays, for which the museum timing is from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

    Apart from the normal schedule, the museum will also be closed on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Labour Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. However, the museum would be open on holidays such as Easter and Independence Day.
