How to Play a D Major Chord on Piano

You think playing the D major chord on your piano is difficult? It is one chord that is integral if you are trying to play any song. It’s not like it is included in all the songs that you will learn; however, in the world of today, where music is created on the basis of three to four basic chords, the D chord is mostly included in songs that you would like to learn on the piano.

Playing the D major chord is not difficult at all. You can easily play it by simply pressing three simple notes in the D major scale. The root note is always D major and you just have to make sure that you are in the same key.

    You have to start off by using your thumb for playing the first note that is needed to play the D major chord on the piano. Place your thumb over the root note, which is D and don’t press it yet.

    Now once you are done with placing your thumb over the root note D, it is time for you to move to the next note which is a major third from D. So basically, with your thumb placed over D, your middle finger should be placed over F#.

    After you are done with placing both your thumb and middle finger, use your pinky finger and place it over A. These three notes, D, F# and A will make up the D major chord.

    The D major chord will not be played by pressing once key at a time. You have to press all the notes at the same time to play the D major chord. Therefore, press all the three keys at the same time in order to play the chord that you have been trying to learn.

    Now the chord which you just played, it can be played on the first in version of the D major chord or triad. You just have to put your thumb on F#, your index finger on A and the last finger on D. This will be an octave above the original root key.

    If you want to play the second inversion of the D major triad, you just have to play with your fingers a little more. Move your thumb to A, use your middle finger to play D and the last finger to play F#.
