How to Play Songs Backwards on Audacity

Audacity is a great audio editing software program, which allows its users to apply different effects to enhance the overall quality of the audio file. It is currently lauded as one of the best audio editing software programs available in the market, as it also offers industry-standard VST effect plug-ins for additional editing.

If you want to play your audio backwards, then you can also do it using Audacity, as it contains reverse effect feature, and you will be able to do it by just few clicks from your mouse. You can also save the file permanently in reverse order, to make it reversely playable by other media players.

    Visit Audacity’s official website, audacity.sourceforge.net/download, and download the software. It does not matter which operating system you are using, as you can get different versions for different operating systems, including Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.

    Once the download is complete, double click on the installation file to start installing the program. Click “Next” and select “I Agree” when the “Terms and Agreement” window appears. Click “Next”, and specify the location, where you want Audacity’s installation files to be saved. Click “Next”. When the “Finish” button appears, click on it, to end the installation process.

    Now go to “Start” menu and write “Audacity” in the search field. You will see Audacity icon appearing in the search results. Click on it to launch the program.

    From the “File” menu, select “Open” and use the browser to locate the audio file which you want to play backwards. Click “Open” and the audio file will be loaded in the program.

    Select the audio file, and click on “Effects”. From the list of options, select “Reverse” to apply the effect. You can now click the “Play” button, to check the new order of the audio.

    If you want to reverse a specific portion of the audio file, then you can click and hold on the starting point, and drag to the ending point. Click “Effects” and select “Reverse”, to reverse the selection portion. Click “Play” and see if you have got your desired effect.

    Once done, click “File” menu and select “Save As”, to save the file on your computer. Using the browser, specify the location where you want to save the edited audio file. Click the “Save” button and then play the file backwards in your media player.
