How to Prove You’re Not a Cop

One of the biggest setbacks of living in a dangerous neighbourhood is that one often runs into drug dealers and other law breakers who are always on a lookout for cops due to the nature of their dealings and activities. They tend to be suspicious of cops patrolling or living in the neighbourhood posing as civilians, which is why they often start interrogating innocent people, asking them to prove that they are not cops.

Answering difficult questions comes down to your understanding of what is being asked and the askers intentions of the answer they are looking for.

Let’s first turn the tables.  Law enforcement officers are trained to ask questions in a way to get the answers they are looking for.  This training escalates from a simple street cop to FBI, higher you go, more training you receive.

They are trained to ask you double ended questions.  Most of the time the question they ask you, will be two in one. The answer they are looking for is Yes or No.  You are stuck if you say “Yes” and you are equally stuck if you say “No”.  For example.  A police officer wants to search your car or wants to know if you are carrying drugs.  Instead of asking as two separate questions, he will ask “do you have any drugs in the car and do you mind if i search?”

If you answer it as a single question, chances are high:

If you said “No”, you have given permission to search

if you said “Yes” you have admitted to having drugs.

When someone asks you if you are a cop, first thing you want to make sure, is to understand if it is a single question being asked.

Best way to answer a single question is to get more details.

Question: Are you a Cop?

Answer with a question: No, What makes you think I am a Cop?

When he answers, It will allow you to figure out what the real concern is.

Later in this article you will be able to read why prevention is better than confrontation.

One of the first things that you will be asked to answer by the drug dealers or other such shady people living in your neighbourhood is whether you are a cop or not. While it is common to see a person admitting that he is a cop and then engages in an action sequence that involves him beating the bad guys to pulp, things do not go that way in reality. Even if you really are a cop, never answer their question honestly. Just tell them that you are not a cop and be sure to act scared while saying this. Cops are full of confidence because of the authority and power that they are used to, while ordinary citizens generally get scared easily, especially when they are surrounded by a group of shady people.

The group of people who are suspicious of you being a cop may ask you to prove that you really are telling the truth by asking you to do something unlawful. A cop’s duty is to uphold law, not break it. A drug dealer may hand you a joint and ask you to smoke it. If you are into drugs, this should not be a problem for you, but if you have kept yourself clean so far in life, then this indeed is going to be a problem. You will not have much time to make a decision. You will either have to let go of your principle to not do drugs, or get beaten up so badly that you may find yourself spending the next few weeks on a hospital bed. In such situations, it is best to do as they ask.

Some dealers and people involved in shady activities may not be convinced by you smoking a joint and would therefore ask you to do something more extreme, like pulling down your pants and flashing your genitals. You may be a very decent person, but it is best to let go of your decency when you have your life to worry about.

    Prevention is better than confrontation

If you can, the smartest thing to do is not to be in a situation where you have to be questioned.  If you see a group of people on one side of the street, simple change and go to the other side.  If that is not possible, turn around and go back.  This will allow you to not be confronted.  If you think this makes you look like a coward, it doesn't. Being smart is the key.

  • 5

Keep mental note of your surroundings

This will allow you to plan escape routes, thinking  in advance what your going to do if something goes bad is smart.

This one is on the flip side

The most important four words someone who doesn't want to be questioned by the police can say are "I want my lawyer". It has the power of constitution behind it, way better than remaining silent.  Once you ask for a lawyer any questioning or interrogation must stop.  So if you are being stopped by a drug dealer or any other criminal, tell them you are not a cop. If they don’t believe you, “Ask them to ask for a lawyer”.  Cops and Lawyers don’t go hand in had. Cops job is to uphold the law, lawyers job is to use the law to get their clients off.

I know i said smoke a joint rather than getting beat up

Don't follow that advice. You don't want to break the law. Be polite but do not agree to doing anything that is illegal.

  • 8

Sometimes when people know you are afraid, they bully you more.   Like i said, be polite but you must be firm when you say something. Do not become a someone's pushover or they will suck all of the power out of the situation from you. If they don't do it this time, they will the next.

If nothing else works, tell the person to walk with you to the nearest Donut shop and ask the owner to vouch for you.
