How To Request Copies of Your School Transcript

You may be required to submit your school transcript while applying for admission in a college or university. Some jobs, particularly the government ones, also make it compulsory for the job candidate to submit a copy of his school transcript, which is then used to learn about the education and training of the person applying for the job.

If you have been asked to submit a copy of your school transcript even though you have not graduated from there yet, or have graduated for quite some time, there is nothing to worry about. The process to request for a copy of your transcript is a simple one.

Getting a copy of your school transcript will prove to be quite easy if you are still to graduate from there. You can either write an application to them, requesting for your transcript while clearly citing the reason for which you require it. You can also give your school a call or visit it in person to make the request to the concerned department, which in most cases is the school’s guidance department.

If you are no longer in school, you can still follow the directions in the previous step to get a copy of your transcript from your school. It would be better to visit the school personally instead of trying to get everything done via phone.

Schools only keep the academic record of students for few years, two to five years in most cases. After this period expires, it sends the academic record to the district administration office where they are archived. If you end up requiring a copy of your transcript after that, you will have to get in touch with the district registrar. You can either write to him, give him a call, or visit him in person. Again, it is advised to meet him in person so that you can get things done much faster. Trying to get things done through e-mails or phone typically takes makes the whole process longer.
