If you think that the other person is within reach, yet you can’t swim to save him/her, always grab a rope, a stick or a pole which you think might reach them. There’s a small chance that they might grab a rope, but using a stick or a pole can help you get their attention. Reach out to them with any one of these things and once they grab hold of whatever you have stretched out, simply pull them so that they can be rescued.

If you think that the other person is really far away, grab a boat. This boat will help you carry yourself to the place where the other person is drowning. Dive into the water and grab hold of the person. Either you can hook your arm around the other person’s chest and backstroke him/her to the boat, or you can come from behind and hook your arms over his/her back and sidestroke them to a safe place. While doing this, you must make sure that you first try to calm the other person down. If the other person is panicking, there is a high possibility that they might end up hitting you while moving their arms and legs. Therefore, talk to the other person and make them realize that you are a swimmer and you can help. Moreover, you should only do this if you are actually a good swimmer and you think you can carry another person with you.

Another way is to throw a life buoy towards the person drowning and after he/she stops panicking, drag him/her out of water.

The last way is to ask the professionals to do it for you. If you are in a place where there are life guards, simply run towards them and tell them that there is a person drowning in water. They will simply use their everyday skills to help the man/woman out.
