How to Reset the Password on Linksys Router
If you suspect that an unauthorised user is accessing your network, then the best thing to prevent the breach is to reset the password on your Linksys router. It is important to do this without delay because once a network’s password is compromised, it leaves every computer on the network vulnerable to foreign threats, with hackers being the most common and dangerous of them.
If you do not want unauthorised users breaching your network and installing malware on your computer remotely and covertly, then you should reset your router’s password. The process to do this is a simple one and can be completed in just a few minutes.
Things Required:
– Computer
– Linksys router
– A paperclip, preferably straightened
– A crossover LAN cable

1
Restore your Linksys router to factory settings by giving it a hard reset. To do that, locate the reset button on your device. It is typically located on the side or back of the unit, inside a small pin hole.
Your finger would not be able to get through the hole, which is why you would need to use something pointy, such as a straightened paperclip to press the reset button. Keep the button pressed for about 30 seconds before releasing it. Do not forget to unplug the router from the DSL modem and computer before giving it a hard reset. -
2
Wait for about a minute as the power and WLAN lights on your router activate. Once they are lit, connect the router to the computer using a crossover LAN cable and plug in the cable from your DSL modem. You will notice the Internet light on your unit activates.

The next step is to reconfigure your router. Boot your computer and wait for the Windows to load. Once the desktop appears, open the Web browser, type “192.168.1.1” in the address bar and press “Enter.” A pop-up box will appear on the screen, prompting you to provide username and password. If you are using an older model of Linksys router, leave the username blank and write “admin” in the password field. For newer models, both the username and password is “admin” by default.

Once you have logged into Linksys router’s settings, locate and click on the “Management” tab. Look for the option to set a new administrator password and click it. Set the new password and retype it for confirmation. Be sure to enable WEP or WAP security in order to prevent unauthorised access into your network.
