How to Sleep Cool on a Hot Night

Summers is a time which brings people out for a lot of activities and some family fun. In the retrospect, it is also a time when not only days but on occasions nights too can be uncomfortable due to excessive heat. Countering the heat at night is not an impossible task and can be done whether you live in a big fancy house or are planning on staying outdoors. There is a remedy for all cases and generally a couple of options can be combined to achieve the desired results.

    Air Conditioning

    This is the easiest option, but only for the indoors. Air conditioners create a cool and contaminant free environment, which is set at a specific temperature as per the input a user gives to the thermostat.

    Fans

    Fans are a great option. Try a good quality ceiling fan or a pedestal fan which is quite an effective source of cool air. It is also cheaper than the air conditioning and a good result can be obtained with its help. The additional benefit is that it can be used outdoors.

    Shower

    Take a shower with cold water before going to the bed. This will allow you body to cool down and you will be able to spend the night relatively calmly, even with higher temperatures in the surroundings.

    Sleep on a Straw Sheet

    Sheets made of straw and bamboo are a part of many Asian cultures. You can lay it on the floor and sleep on top of it. It is generally pretty good for hotter conditions. If you are uncomfortable with the texture of the sheet, spread a cotton sheet on top to add some extra padding.

    Damp Your Bed Sheet

    It is probably not the best of ideas but will help greatly in extremely hot conditions. The cooling caused by evaporation will help keep your body cool.

    Ice Packs

    Just like the hot water packs are used in many countries during winters, you can use ice packs in your bed before you go to sleep. They will help is setting a good base temperature.

    Wear the Right Cloths

    Cotton lawn is considered to be the best option for wearing at night in hot summers. Ideally wear your night suit that has been more worn out so that it does not retain heat.
