Most family reunions are arranged once or twice a year, and in special cases, maybe even sooner than that. While these reunions are a great way to stay in touch, other than having to gather again at unfortunate events like a funeral, socializing with all the relatives you haven’t seen in a while can be a bit awkward. Handing out the food and drinks
A great way to socialize at any occasion, including family reunions, is by handing out food and drinks to people. It is also a great way to get back in touch with the people you had a good time hanging out with last time, and makes for a perfect way to approach them if you are a little hesitant to do so again this time around. If the food arrangement is more of a buffet style, getting into the mix with people at the buffet line is also a good way to socialize. -

Take your buddy
Taking a friend to a family reunion is a great way to initiate more socializing at the event. Take someone who you are comfortable talking to, and have a good relationship with. Use him or her to control the other conversations with family members, so that they do not go stale, and you can both work on talking to whomever you like together. Not everyone has the same mindset as you, and may not be as traditional or liberal as you may be, which is why you have to be a little open minded when you are talking to others on a variety of issues. Make sure you maintain a balanced perspective, and do not get into any arguments with people - being open-minded will make you more likeable, and easier for people to socialize with.
