For those of you looking to get started and learn the skills required, the most important thing in pool is your stance, because your balance and positioning can entirely determine where the ball goes.
Having the right posture when shooting the ball can prove to be very helpful for just about anyone. It ensures that you get the right amount of contact on the ball, and helps you avoid slicing the ball. In order to pull off some of the harder shots, such as the spin shot and the chip shot, the right stance is also very important, since even a slight miscalculation in it, can lead to a very poor shot in those situations.

The most important thing to remember when shooting in pool is that your comfort is key. If at any time you are not comfortable in your stance, change it, otherwise not only are you likely to shoot a bad shot lacking precission, but you are also risking injury.

Keep your feet, shoulder width apart, and ensure that your body weight is distributed evenly between your two legs; this brings your centre of balance to the right place.

Make sure your feet are parallel to one another, not bending towards or away from one another. This will assist in making sure your shot remains straight.

Bend the knee that is ahead, slightly, all the while ensuring that your back knee is as straight as possible.

Bend your upper body slightly, the front of your body should now be closer to the table than the back of your body.
