One of the most convenient ways to keep a rocking chair from slipping is to insert a non-slip pad underneath the rails of the chair. Non-slip pads vary in thickness. Thin non-slip pads are made using polyester mesh. Polyester mesh works best for flat carpet weave surfaces, hardwood floor, tile and laminate. Thick non-slip pads are made of vinyl which in turn, is suitable for rocking chairs placed on floor covered with thick carpet. Keeping the type of floor on which your rocking chair is place, choose the proper non-slip pad.

Another way to prevent a rocking chair from slipping is to create friction between the chair rails and the floor. This can be accomplished by attaching felt strips on the bottom of the chair’s rail. Use all-purpose glue for this purpose. Make sure you allow enough time for the glue to dry completely before using the chair. This will ensure that felt sticks to the bottom of the rails for a longer period of time.

Self-adhesive non-slip strips can also be used to prevent a rocking chair from slipping. Although the primary purpose of self-adhesive non-slip strips is to keep kitchen chairs from slipping on slipping, longer lengths of these strips are available for use on larger furniture such as a rocking chair. Since the non-slip strips are self-adhesive, you would not have to use glue and thus there would no need to wait for a certain period of time before you can use the rocking chair.

Velcro is another material which can be used to accomplish the task at hand. Cut Velcro pieces of appropriate length and glue them to the bottom of the rocking chair’s rails. As before, allow time for the glue to dry completely before using the chair.
