How to Take a Shower with a Broken Ankle

Most people tend to suffer from an ankle related injury at least once in their life. This is because ankle injuries are quite common, given the way people carry out their day to day lives.

However, ankle injuries tend to get a whole lot more serious when someone breaks their ankle. An ankle break doesn’t actually mean that the ankle has broken and come apart from the leg. It means that the person in question has gone on to fracture his or her ankle.

The most common ways by which ankles get fractured, is when someone plays a lot of sports, travels great distances on a cycle or while jogging, and/or tends to be rather clumsy.

Nonetheless, a common problem that most ankle injury survivors seem to have is the problem of how to shower with their broken ankle. This is because it is a little tricky to do so and they aren’t quite sure how to go about it.

    Get cast

When you do break your ankle, the first thing you need to do is to go to the doctor and get him/her to take a look at the ankle. The doctor is more than likely going to ask you to wear a cast, which is something that is going to be causing you a lot of problems in your day to day lives, which includes taking a shower.

However, you can ask your doctor if your cast is water proof, in which case you can easily shower with it.

    Shopping bags

Now in case the cast that you get isn’t water proof, you can simply go on and put a shopping bag over your cast. This will keep the cast dry and prevent it from getting wet, soggy and a burden, which is what would happen if you don’t keep it covered with a plastic bag.

Try to keep your injured leg as far away from the shower water as you can, since keeping it dry is the key to success in this case.

    Use a plastic stool/chair

Another way for you to make your life simple is by using a plastic stool or chair. This way you won’t have to balance yourself on one leg in the shower, and you will be able to keep your cast and injured ankle out of the way far more easily then you would, if you were standing up in the shower.
