How to Teach Children about Respect

Respect is reflected in the mirror. It is a matter of give and take and the same rule applies when we are to teach your little ones about respect. If your child is disrespectful then it is what you have taught him to do. If you want your child to show respect to you then first you will have to treat him with respect. Children need respect while being taught about different lessons of life. Never yell or shout at your little one! Always talk in a very soft and loving tone and this is what you will see in your child the next time when you will interact with him.

A child can be of any age group, so teach respect according to the age of your child. Infants need trust so once they start trusting on you they will start showing respect. As far as the toddlers are concerned, they must know when to be grateful and say “may I”. For the one going to the preschool, respect should be taught in the form of lessons.

    It is good to keep on teaching lessons to your child every other day but the way of teaching should be courteous so that the little also learns respect side by side. If you sow the seeds of respect sooner this way then it will not require you to put more effort.

    It might be a challenge for you to deal with the little preschoolers who have gone disrespectful in attitude but it is not as big a challenge as you are taking it. There are many good strategies that you can adopt like you can make your little one learn some poems or songs of respect by heart. Or help your little one to make him/her write a song or poem of their own on respect, this will enlighten respect in them. You can also give them a lesson of respect by telling them a story of respect with a meaningful moral. This way they will learn the consequences of being disrespectful and the benefits of being respectful.

    It is something usual that little ones keep themselves busy in doing something annoying on and off. But still we will have to recall that we still love them and this is what we will have to tell them as well.
