How to Track Your Sales Leads

Every good salesman knows the importance of creating healthy sales leads, which work as the main source of bringing revenue to the company. It is really important to create good sales leads and keep them in the pipeline. In the meantime, it is also very important that one should keep a regular check on the leads in order to move the lead from prospect status to a closed deal.

Earlier, it was really difficult to maintain a routine of tracking the leads. However, technology has now made it possible for everyone to do so in an easy and effective manner.

    Even if you are not very good with computers, you can create a good schedule by which you can keep a check on your sales leads. You can use Microsoft Excel Sheets to create different sections, where you will place the status of the leads. Moreover, you can also create different sheets, within one excel file to track your sales leads efficiently and effectively.

    In the Excel sheet, create headings with “Serial No.”, “Name”, “Organisation”, “Last Conversation”, “Status” or anything else that you prefer. This will help you in entering the data of the sales lead that you have initiated.

    You can also use another sheet within the Excel file, by clicking the “Sheet 2” tab present at the left bottom of the Excel window. You can use that sheet to maintain the record of the leads with prospect status.  In another sheet, you can list your scheduled meetings with the people.

    For instance, you contacted a person from ABC company to sell you company’s product. If you feel that he was not interested in the product for the time being, you can keep the record of the particular person on the sheet. After few days, you contact him once again and he shows some interest and asks you to meet him on a particular day. Then you can save his name in the scheduled list with status as “Medium prospect” or “High prospect” according to your conversation with him. Also mention the date when you are scheduled to meet him. Keep a check on the meeting sheet, which will help you getting update about your dates and timings for the meeting.
