How to Tune your Guitar

One of the key aspects of playing the guitar is to tune the strings properly. Most of the experienced guitarists can tune by ear. However, if you are an amateur, you may want to use a portable hand held model. Most of the battery operated gadgets have a microphone installed in the design so that an acoustic guitar can be tuned without the use of an electronic connection. You can get great tuning in only a couple of minutes through this method. There are a number of other ways to tune your guitar with good effect as well.

    Switch on the tuner

First of all, turn the tuner to the on position. Place the guitar close to the tuner and play the first note that is low E. Then see to make sure that the tuner is getting the signal. Switch on the turning peg on the guitar lower or higher in order to change the pitch of the guitar. This will give you a better picture of the tuning. Then without touching any of the strings on the fret board, gently and cleanly pluck the top E string with the help of guitar pick.

    Use of digital tuner

If you have a digital tuner, the guitar string will be tuned when the LED of the digital display is shown by a green light. It will display whether the note is either sharp or flat through a red light. It is thought to be sharp if the light moves beyond the middle of the intended note which should be E.

Know that it needs to be tuned down to get to the middle. On the other hand, if it does not go to the center, then it will require to be tuned up.

    Analog tuner

While using an analog tuner, the same method is performed. You will just be doing it with a meter (needle) rather than the cool LED. Make sure that the middle or tune area of the meter is at 0.

Do this process against for all other strings. Try to remember that you need to follow note E with A, D, G, B and E,  going from lowest to highest and top to bottom.

However, understand that you cannot achieve ideal intonation as the guitar can never be in perfect tune no matter what you do.
