How to Turn a Photo into a Line Drawing or Sketch in Photoshop

Before doing anything else you will need to make sure that you have what it takes to successfully edit a photo in Adobe Photoshop. Determination, attention to details and working long hours can help you perform this task in a very short time. Consider installing Adobe Photoshop onto your computer if you have not done so already. Turn on your computer and wait for Windows to load. Enter your username and password to access the desktop. Click the internet browser icon in the Start up menu and a new window will open. Type in Adobe’s official website address in the URL section and you will be navigated to the website. Next find the product and services page and locate the Photoshop Elements 6. Save and run the programme and then complete the installation process to start editing any photos.

Now open the Photoshop program from the desktop or Start up menu. Find the photo you are looking to convert to a line drawing line on your computer. As you click open tab a window will appear, which will allow you to select the file you want to open from your desktop. Make sure the photo is good quality as you may not be able to achieve the desired results if you are using a low quality picture.

Now find the Filter tab on the toolbar menu. Select the Artistic option from the drop down list and then choose the Cutout option. Make the following changes in the window to be able to perform the task of converting a photo to a sketch.
Set the Number of levels to 8
Edge Fidelity to 3
Edge Simplicity to 0 -

Choose New Layer option from the Layers menu. Use the Magic Wand tool and turn off the Contagious option. Now edit the Photo and choose the resolution of the image.
