How to Unclog a Drain with Household Items
Drains all over are house are at one time or another susceptible to getting clogged. Hair in the bathroom, food and gunk in the kitchen, either way they are going to get you. Grocery and hardware store isles are filled with a plethora of chemical and toxic liquids that are supposed to clear those messes. What if we told you that you could make a similar agent at home that would be just as effective and completely natural?
Things Required:
Baking soda: 1 cup
Salt: 1 cup
Cream of tartar: 1 cup (cream of tartar can be purchased at local grocery stores in the baking related isle.)
Boiling water: 2 cups
Instructions
-
1
Mix It
In a large glass container, mix the salt, baking soda and cream of tartar. Stir until completely mixed. -
2
First Quarter
Take 1/4 of the mixed solution and pour it into the clogged drain. -
3
Add Water
Pour the boiling water into the same drain. The heat of the water in concert with your effective unclogging mixture works well to break down and loosen build up. -
4
Wait For It
Allow the drain to sit untouched for an hour. -
5
Run Water
Once the allotted time has passed, run the tap to clear out the clogged drain. -
6
BONUS
For those who need to unclog a drain and do not have cream of tartar handy, pour a 1/2 cup of baking soda down the drain and follow that with a 1/2 cup of white vinegar. Cover the drain (either with a drain cover or a small bowl) and allow it to sit for 10 minutes. Run water to clear out the build up.
