How to Use Posters on Kitchen Cabinets
Covering kitchen cabinets with colourful posters is a good way way to give your old and dingy cabinets a new look. This technique can also be used to give a vibrant punch to a kitchen with boring white cabinets. It is not only a simple and easy way to give your kitchen a new look, but is economical as well, compared to changing the cabinet doors altogether or painting the cabinets and the kitchen walls.

– Screwdriver
– All-purpose cleaner
– Rag
– Bathtub
– Towels
– Decoupage medium
– Paintbrush
– Utility knife

Remove the cabinet doors from the frames by unscrewing the hinges with the help of a screw driver. You will also need to unscrew door knobs or pulls if there are any.

Lay the doors out on a large work surface, while place the hinges and screws in a large bowl or bag and set aside in a safe place.

Clean the cabinet doors with a soapy solution to remove all the dirt, grime and food spills or stains, since the posters do not stick well to greasy surfaces. Wipe off the cleanser residue by cleaning the doors with a with a soft, lint-free cloth dampened in lukewarm water and allow them to dry before proceeding.

Once you have cleaned all the doors, stack them in a safe area.

Take one door and lay it on a large work surface with plenty of room. Remember you will be working with a lot of water, so choose an area you won’t mind wetting, such as a bathroom.

Fill the bath tub (if using a bathroom) one quarter with warm water and place the poster in the tub. Warm water will soften the poster, making it easier to work with (dry poster papers are usually hard and crease easily). Once the poster is workable, lay it on a dry towel.

Thoroughly paint the door with a thin layer of decoupage medium, making sure the door has been entirely covered with it.

Place the poster on the door and position it correctly, then smooth out any air bubbles or wrinkles by gently rubbing the poster with a wet sponge.

Wrap the edges of the poster paper onto the back side of the door and secure it with glue or some extra decoupage medium. Cut the too long edges of the poster paper and allow it to dry completely, before replacing the doors.
