How to Visit the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art

The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA), located in San Francisco, California, is a non-profit organization. The Museum has over 26,000 specimen of paintings, sculptures, architecture, photography and design. The museum possesses an endowment of around $100 million, being a popular tourist attraction for the visitors.

    Location

    The Museum is located at 151 Third Street, between Mission and Howard. You can access the museum either by public transport or drive your way to it. Don’t worry about the parking space, you’ll find plenty of room to park if you’re traveling on your own automotive.

    Parking Space

    You won’t face a parking problem if you’re heading for a visit to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. There are a total of four parking lots nearby the museum named SFMOMA Garage (147 Minna Street), Fifth and Mission Garage (833 Mission Street), Moscone Center Garage (255 Third Street) and Museum Parc Garage (300 Third Street).

    Admission

    The admission price for an Adult is $18.00, while the price for a student is $11.00. Senior citizens get a discount on the ticket price, with the ticket costing them only $13.00. Children who are currently aged twelve or under do not have to buy tickets as their admission is free. Moreover, admissions for active U.S military personals are also free. Thursday evenings, ranging from 6:00 PM to 8:45 PM, have half-priced admissions for everyone. While the first Tuesdays of the month are also free for the general public.

    Tours

    Guided Tours are also available for the visitors. If you’re accompanied with children, make sure they are accompanied by you at all times. There are no extra charges for a guided tour. However, if you’re arranging a group tour you need to contact the museum administration at least a few weeks prior to the planned visit. You can also visit the Research Library which is open to general public from Tuesday to Thursday during the museum timings. It’s also open to outside researchers by appointment basis.

    Other Attractions

    The SFMOMA includes several other attractions besides its vivid collections of specimens. The Museum’s other attractions consists of MuseumStore, Caffe Museo, Blue Bottle Coffee Bar and an Artists Gallery.

    Open hours

    The museum is open from Thursday to Tuesday, with Wednesday being the only exception. From Friday to Wednesday, the museum will remain open from 11:00 AM to 5:45 PM. However, there is a slight change in timing on Thursday as it’s from 11:00 AM to 8:45 PM.
