How to Win at Tic Tac Toe Every Time

Tic tac toe is a paper pencil game for two players. In total there are nine boxes where both players can either place O or X. In order to win, one player needs to put three O’s or three X’s in a single line either horizontally, vertically or diagonally. There is no hard and fast rule to win tic tac toe, but there are different tricks which when used can render your opponent helpless. You can learn these tricks in order to win, but there is also a high possibility that the match may end up in a draw.

The first trick is the easiest. If you go first, simply place your symbol (O or X) right in the center. Wait for the other player to make his/her move. If they place their symbol in one of the corners, then you should place one in the corner as well. However, if they place their symbol in the center of the four sides then pick a corner on the opposite side and place your symbol there. Wait for the other player to make a move and examine how they will place their symbol on the other corner so that you don’t win. Place your symbol in another corner and you will notice that you can win with any of the two moves, diagonally or vertically. No matter where the other player places his/her symbol, you will win the game.

Another trick starts from the corner of the game. Place your symbol on any one of the four corners. Then place it in the other corner, if your opponent hasn’t. Lastly, place it in the third corner. You will notice that either you will be winning diagonally and vertically, vertically and horizontally or horizontally and diagonally.

The first two steps guarantee a win since they do not give your opponent a chance to choose between moves. No matter which box they pick, you will eventually end up winning the game. However, the simplest trick is to find a way to somehow place your symbol in a line either vertically, horizontally or diagonally. This may sound like the basics of the game, but once you concentrate, you will realize it isn’t something difficult to do. Follow all the moves which your opponent makes and do not let him/her win. Remember, a draw is always better than a loss, so never let your opponent win even if you have to sacrifice a win.
