How Twitter Works

Over the last couple of decades, social networking has become increasingly popular all around the world. Twitter, these days, is one of the leading social networking sites, which is being used by millions all over the globe, including celebrities.

Through Twitter, people can update others about their lives and happenings through posts containing 140 characters, which are called ‘tweets’. The users may also share links, pictures or interesting information. A Twitter user can choose to follow different personalities and use the account for news feeds. A user has complete control over his/her account and what information is supposed to appear on his home page.

    Have a valid email id

    In order to make a profile on Twitter, the user must have a valid email address.

    Make your account

    If/once you have a valid email address, log in to www.twitter.com and make your account by filling the required information and set a password, which is your key to go into your profile and interact with people.

    Choose an image

    Most of the people using Twitter put a display picture, which makes it easy for others to recognise them. The display picture is extremely important as it becomes a user’s identity and can be changed as many times as a user wants to.

    How to connect?

    Twitter allows its users to search for people anywhere in the world and get their tweets or the replies to their tweets by following them. Once you open an account, you will get to see an option ‘follow’, by clicking on that option you will be shared by the tweets and updates of that person.

    Retweeting

    If a user likes a Tweet, he/she can always share that tweet on his/her home page by choosing the option ‘retweet’. By doing this, people who are following you will be able to see that tweet and comment on that if they want to.

    Private Message

    If a user wants to talk to another user in private and does not wish the conversation to be seen by others, he/she can opt to send Private Messages to others, which will be sent to the recipient’s inbox.

    Hashtags

    In order to see tweets on the same topic, people use hashtags to make it more popular. There are no spaces or punctuation mark in a hashtag, which starts with ‘#’ mark. For example, a football match between two famous clubs like Chelsea and Liverpool will have a hashtag like #chelseavsliverpool.
