List of Youth Softball Leagues in Ottawa

Invented in 1888, softball was conceived as an indoor game, also called ladies’ baseball. Since it is directly derived from baseball, the two are alike; however, there are several differences as well. Firstly, unlike its name, the ball used in softball isn’t any softer than the one used in baseball – it is larger however and less dense. Furthermore, the pitching style is softball is under-arm and the field of play is smaller than that in baseball. The game is very popular amongst children and women, and is also played regularly at high school and college levels.
