Particularly ideal for summer, the Manhattan cocktail takes little to no time to prepare, and is bound to get your guests in the mood for a great evening.

Preparation Time: 5 minutes
Serving Size: Serves 2 persons
Utensils: Cocktail shaker/electric blender, strainer, martini glasses

Ingredients:
– 0.375 oz of sweet vermouth
– 1.25 oz of bourbon whiskey
– 0.5 dash of bitters
– 4 cherries, pitted
– 1 twist of orange peel

Instructions

  • 1

Start by filling the cocktail shaker about a quarter of the way with ice – for this purpose, you can use either cracked ice, or whole ice cubes. Once the shaker is filled with ice, you can begin to pour in the ingredients for the cocktail.

  • 2

Begin with the 0.375 oz of sweet vermouth, then add in the 1.25 oz of bourbon whiskey and the 0.5 dash of bitters. Once all these ingredients have been poured in, screw on the top of the cocktail shaker securely, and shake it vigorously, until all the ingredients are well mixed.

If you do not have a cocktail shaker, you can make a Manhattan cocktail in an electric blender. Pour in cracked ice, along with the vermouth, bourbon whiskey, and bitters, cover the blender, and pulse at medium to low, for 8 seconds at most. Do not blend at too high a speed, or for too long, as this will ruin the flavour of the cocktail, and make it frothy and cloudy as opposed to smooth and clear.

  • 4

Once the cocktail is ready, take two martini glasses and divide the cherries equally between both glasses. These will settle at the bottom of the glass, and add a pop of colour to the drink.

  • 5

Then, hold a strainer over each glass as you pour in the drink – this will prevent any crushed ice from making its way into the cocktail. Pour an appropriate amount into each martini glass, making sure you do not over-fill the glass.

  • 6

As a finishing touch, rub some orange peel along the rims of both glasses, in order to titillate the drinker’s taste buds, and add a sharp burst of flavour. Your Manhattan cocktail is now ready – serve chilled.
