MI5 Security Service London
The security service of the United Kingdom is known as MI5 (Military Intelligence, Section 5). This is the internal security agency and counter-intelligence of the United Kingdom. In addition to this, MI5 is also a part of the main intelligence machinery together with the MI6 or Secret Intelligence Service (SIS). This security service has constitutional basis in both the Intelligence Services Act 1994, and even before that, in the Security Service Act 1989. Although, the main focus of MI5 is internal security but it also has some role in foreign operations as well. Therefore, Home Secretary is liable for intelligence operations within the United Kingdom, but in case of overseas operations, MI5 acts on behalf of the Government Communications Headquarters and SIS.
