Hollywood has been sending great movies in our direction for as long as one can remember. Some of these films are so great that it almost seems like a sin to die without watching them first. The list of such films is a lengthy one. However, if one is asked to pick just five films from the list that rank the highest on the list, then that definitely brings up the name of The Shawshank Redemption, The Godfather, Inception, Titanic and The Lord of the Rings. If you have no watched them yet, go to your nearest movie shop and buy/rent them immediately.

The Shawshank Redemption is an American drama film that came out in 1994. Written and directed by Frank Darabont, the film tells the story of a banker who spends just about two decades in the Shawshank State Prison after being convicted by the court for murdering his wife and her love, something that he repeatedly denies of being guilty of. During his time at the prison, he becomes friends with another inmate and the two begin to bond over the years. You will not find any action or special effects in the film. Instead, you will find screenplay and dialogue that will touch your very soul.

The Godfather is considered to be one of the greatest films in the history of cinema. Released in 1972, the American crime film is based on the novel of the same name written by Mario Puzo. The characters, dialogues, screenplay, everything is just so perfect that you will find yourself stunned. Marlon Brando and Al Pacino have played the role of leaders of powerful New York mafia. The film primarily focuses on the transformation of Al Pacino into a ruthless Mafia boss. Director Francis Ford Coppola has done an amazing job and created what can be aptly described as pure gold.

Inception is an English science-fiction thriller that came out in 2010. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Ken Watanabe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ellen Page and Tom Hardy among a large cast of extremely talented actors, the film revolves around a thief (DiCaprio) who carries out corporate espionage by entering the dreams/subconscious of his targets. He is presented a chance to recuperate his old life in exchange of completing a task that is considered impossible, implanting someone else’s idea into the target’s subconscious.

Titanic is an American romantic-disaster film that came out in 1997. Directed, co-produced and co-edited by James Cameron, the same man who gave us Avatar, the film narrates the tale of RMS Titanic, a ship thought to be unsinkable, but proved otherwise. The lead cast includes Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet.

Lord of the Rings is a film series comprising of three parts, namely The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King. Adapted from JRR Tolkien’s novel of the same name, the trilogy tells a tale of courage, hope and faith.
