Nokia Slashes Lumia 900’s Us Price
Nokia has cut costs of its flagship smartphone Lumia 900 in the U.S in an attempt to vigorously compete with Samsung and Apple.
The windows-based smartphone now comes with a price tag of $49.99 with a two year agreement from AT&T. The initial cost of the handset was $99.
Nokia Lumia 900 can be obtained from AT&T stores. A representative from Nokia said the price slash “is part of our ongoing life-cycle management, which is jointly done between Nokia and carrier customers.” According to him, the price slash is something very usual at this time in a smartphone’s life cycle as Samsung has also slashed the price of its Galaxy SII, which came before the Lumia 900.
While looking at the data from ComScore, it suggests that Nokia has successfully sold around 330,000 Lumia handsets in the U.S after its launch. Some analysts commented on this data and said it would be a great beginning for Nokia if it was a fledgling company.
Last month, the Finish Company said that it is planning to eliminate 10,000 jobs and its handset business is suffering a major quarterly loss. Even renowned credit rating agencies have ranked Nokia to “junk” status.
According to a recent research conducted by IDC, all smartphones which run on Google’s Android system are likely to compromise 61% of the global market share this year. On the other hand Apple’s iPhone would grab more than 20% market share.
The initial sales of Lumia 900 appeared to be good enough, and the product was listed as the bestselling smartphone on Amazon in the first week after its launch. In fact, the product also received a positive response from consumers.
The Lumia 900 can be found on AT&T website in different colors including white, blue, black, or the recently released pink with a two-year agreement.
