Nugent Cocktail Recipe
A sweet drink with an undertone of citrus, and a unique flavour which turns out to be raw egg whites, the Nugent cocktail is an off-beat beverage which can double as a cocktail and a conversation point at any party or dinner. Sweetened with sugar, the drink is made of white rum, lemon juice, and raw egg whites that are shaken up with the liquor in the cocktail mixer, until the entire drink takes on a cloudy, frothy white consistency. Great for a winter-themed party, Nugent cocktails can be whipped up in 5 or less minutes, and do not require you to buy any elaborate, far-fetched ingredients.
Preparation Time: 4 to 5 minutes
Serving Size: Serves 1 person
Utensils: Cocktail glass, cocktail shaker, blender, strainer
Ingredients:
– 2 ounces white rum
– ½ ounce lemon juice
– 1 teaspoon superfine sugar
– ½ an egg white
– Ice cubes
Instructions
-
1
Start by taking a cocktail glass (preferably a martini glass), and putting this in the refrigerator. Since the drink has a white, cloudy appearance, chilling the serving glass in order to help it attain a frosty look will enhance the appearance and taste of the cocktail in a big way.

Next, crack an egg and separate the yolk from the whites. You can do this by using any method you prefer - crack it into a bowl and remove the yolk with a spoon, or crack it over a bowl, and let the whites slide out into the bowl while you keep the yolk in the shell. Whichever method you choose, just make sure none of the egg yolk makes its way into the whites. Once this is done, put the yolk aside, as you will be working with the whites alone.

Now, use a blender to grind your ice cubes until they attain a fine, soft, powdery consistency (like snow), and then grind the sugar too, so it becomes fine and fluffy (this will make it easier to dissolve).

Once all the ingredients have been prepared, it is time to assemble the cocktail. Take your cocktail shaker, and add in the rum, lemon juice, sugar, half the egg whites, and the ground ice cubes. Shake vigorously for around 15 seconds, until all the ingredients are well blended.

Finally, take the chilled cocktail glass out of the refrigerator, and strain the prepared cocktail into this. Your Nugent cocktail is now ready – serve chilled.
