    History of O2 Academy Brixton

    The entertainment scene started off as a theatre and cinema at Stockwell road in 1929 with the name of Astoria. In 1972 it closed its cinema wing and it was decided in 1974 to demolish the building and to construct a showroom and petrol station. However, this plan did not materialize and the place was closed in 1982 due to financial diffculties and in 1983, it was purchased by Simon Parkes who opened it as Brixton Academy.

    By Tube

    Brixton tube station is the closest tube station from the O2 academy. The 0.2 mile distance between the tube station and O2 academy can be covered in 4 minutes. Head north on Brixton road and then turn left onto Stockwell road. Now turn right onto Astoria walk and you will find the venue on your left hand side. View Map.

    By Bus

    The O2 academy has a bus stop right at its doorstep. Even the name of the bus stop is “Brixton Academy (Stop B)”. You can ride on any of the buses numbering 2, 196, 322, 333, 345 and N2 to get dropped at the venue.
