History
Started in 1967, Polka Theatre was set up as a touring company that showcased its fine design and puppetry in various theatres of Britain. The founder of Polka, Mr. Richard Gill in 1976, chose the Holy Trinity Halls in Wimbledon to give Polka its own site. The Polka Theatre soon became famous for its child-focused design and performances. Ever since then, the company has seen massive growth and its second director, Mr. Vicky Ireland, in 1988, culminated the company into a centre of excellence. In 1994, Polka won Vivien Duffield theatre award and in 2002, the third creative director Ms. Annie Wood took charge and rose to fame right from her first performance and further expanded the business of the company. In 2007 the present artistic director, Jonathen Lloyd, took charge who aims to take the company to newer horizons. -
