    Holidays in January


    New Year’s Day- January 1

    This is a public holiday which marks the beginning of the Gregorian Calendar Year.

    Epiphany- January 6

    This day celebrates the sign of the incarnation of Jesus Christ. Christians all over the world celebrate this day and January 6 is observed as a national holiday in Greece.

    Independence Day- March 25

    The European country celebrates its Independence Day every year on this date as it marks the start of the Greek War of Independence.

    Holidays in May


    Labour Day- May 1

    This is an annual holiday in the country and celebrates the importance of workers. The day gives importance to the contributions workers have made to this world and pays tribute to their immense hard work.

    Good Friday- May 3

    Christians observe Good Friday in respect of Jesus Christ, who was crucified on this day.  This day is part of the Holy Week and is followed by Easter holidays.

    Easter Monday- May 6

    This is the first Monday after the Good Friday and is the day after Easter. Christians regard it as the second day of the Bright Week and observe a holiday on this day.

    Holy Spirit Monday- June 24

    This day is also known as the Pentecost Monday or the Whit Monday and is celebrated 50 days after the Easter. It is the day after the Pentecost and is celebrated as a holiday by Christians all over the world.

    Assumption Day- August 15

    This is the day when Virgin Mary was taken up to the Heaven at the end of her life of this Earth. The day is observed as a holiday in many countries where there is dense Christian population, including Greece.

    The Ochi Day- October 28

    This day is celebrated as the day when Greece refused to the ultimatum given by the Italian dictator, Benito Mussolini, in 1940. The Italian forces, in response, attacked Greek borders and the war is now known as the Battle of Greece.

    Christmas- December 25

    Greece observes a national holiday on December 25 like most of the world.

    Boxing Day- December 26

    There is a holiday on December 26 also which is known as the Boxing Day.
