Samsung Launches ITunes Rival Music Hub with Galaxy SIII
Samsung announced on Tuesday, May 29 that is has launched a new online music service called Music Hub. Initially, the service will be available on the Galaxy SIII which recently released in Europe and the Middle East.
Other Samsung phones will eventually be able to use Music Hub in the future. For now, the electronic maker’s decision to use the new Galaxy SIII as their launch phone for the service may have been a good idea because of the record breaking pre-order run of Samsung Galaxy SIII. With 9 million devices ordered before release, the Galaxy SIII recently became the most pre-ordered phone in history.
Music Hub will be free of charge and will store purchased music in the cloud. Any device that the user picks up can connect to the music service and play the same play lists. The latest offering from Samsung was developed after the company purchased mSpot Inc . The Palo Alto based mSpot was picked up in early May by Samsung because the American firm had developed a movie streaming service and an online music storage service. The South Korean manufacturer used the technology developed by the mobile content service provider to create their own rival to Apple’s iTunes.
A spokesperson explained that the Music Hub service not only allowed the user to listen to their music on the smartphone but also on their laptops, desk tops and other mobile devices. The music could also be stored on the device itself so that the user could listen to music without the internet.
Samsung continues to impress with its strong run in the mobile market. Recent reports indicate that the company has become the largest seller of smartphones in the world by selling 44.5 million units. This was ahead of Apple who ended up shipping 35.1 million iPhones. This was not the only achievement as the Korean manufacturer also beat out Nokia as the largest producer of mobile handsets.
