History of Southwark Cathedral:
Southwark Cathedral has been a permanent place of worship for more 1,000 years now. However, it became a cathedral a century ago in 1905, after Diocese came into being. The design of the current Southwark Cathedral building mainly comes from the Gothic era of 1220 and 1420. As this building is quite old, therefore it has gone through many renovation procedures. This includes a reconstruction that took place in 1212, when the building of this church was damaged badly due to a fire outburst. -

The operational hours of Southwark Cathedral between Monday and Friday are from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, whereas on Saturdays and Sundays, this site remains open between 8:30 am and 6:00 pm. However, visitors should pay a visit during main visiting hours, which are from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. -

Southwark Cathedral is about 0.1 mile away from London Bridge tube station and patrons can easily get to this church in about 3 minutes. If the patrons head in the southwest direction on Borough High Street/A3 towards London Bridge Street from this London Underground station then, turn right onto Bedale Street and later take a slight right turn from Bedale Street to Cathedral Street, they will find the destination on the right. Guy's Hospital (Stop K) and Southwark Cathedral has a 0.1 mile distance between them which makes it a 3 minutes walking journey. If a person heads northwest on St. Thomas St/A200 towards Borough High Street/A3 from this bus stop then, continues onto Bedale Street. Bedale Street will later turn slightly right and become Cathedral Street, from where the destination can be found on the right side. Bus numbers 381, 43 and N381 have stops at this bus stop.
