St Andrew’s Day in London
Saint Andrew was among the first-twelve disciples of Jesus Christ and a brother of Saint Peter, also known as Simon Peter. He preached the teachings of Jesus Christ his entire life and was believed to be crucified on a diagonally intersecting cross, the symbol of which has been adopted in the Scotland’s flag. He is considered as the patron saint, not only of Scotland, but also of other parts of the world that include Russia, Ukraine, Romania and Greece. To commemorate his teachings, 30 November has been designated as feast day of Saint Andrew. The day is primarily associated with Scotland, where it is also a national day, but it is also observed in other parts of the world. Different activities and ceremonies are also celebrated in London, where different organisations, pubs, bars and restaurants arrange various Scottish activities.

History:
Saint Andrew’s day was a part of the yearly dates that were planned to commemorate the Christian saints who appeared at some stage in late antiquity, and in the initial phases of the Middle Ages. The day is mainly commemorated in Scotland on November 30, in the memory of the Parton saint of Scotland.

Activities
Besides official bank holiday on Saint Andrew’s day and traditional custom to fly Scotland’s flag on all government buildings as well as most recently, the tradition of flying saltier, a number of traditional entertainment activities including special bagpipes music, food and dancing is celebrated. Additionally, many Saint Andrew-themed parties are celebrated across London. These celebrations held most of the time in Scottish restaurants and bars.
