The National Archives London

The National Archives working under UK government as a department also as an executive agency with the Secretary of state and justice. It is the official archive and publisher of UK government and is formed as the combination or merger of four (former) organizations. These were the Public Record Office, the Historical Manuscripts Commission (earlier the Royal Commission on Historical Manuscripts), the Office of Public Sector Information (OPSI) and Her Majesty’s Stationery Office (HMSO). The National Archives stores, records and manages the information; provides access to public of stored documents and makes sure that other public organizations follow the public records act of United Kingdom.

    Being the archive and publisher of UK government, The National Archives holds oldest of documents. People come to obtain news or access information regarding a research topic. The National Archives plays an important role in bringing historical facts and figures to the people as it holds the glorious log of 1000 years of British history.  Students enrich themselves with the information through Lessons, videoconferences, virtual classrooms and podcasts.

    Operational Hours

    The National Archives remains open from Tuesday to Saturday while it’s closed on Sunday and Monday. For Tuesdays the timings are from 09.00 hours to 19.00 hours. For Wednesdays 9.00 hours till 17.00 hours, Thursdays 9.00 hours till 19.00 hours. On Friday and Saturday the timings are from 9.00 hours till 17.00 hours.

    How to Get to National Archives

    By Tube

    From the closest underground station, Kew gardens Tube station, move southwest on Layton Pl toward Station Ave turn right onto Station Approach. Turn right onto Kew Gardens Rd/B353 and then right onto Leyborne Park. Turn right onto Mortlake Rd/A205. Turn left onto Ruskin Ave. The National Archives will be on your left. View Map

    By Bus

    The closest Bus stop is Kew, Kew Retail Park (S-bound). Bus number R68 will take you to this stop. From the bus stop move southwest and turn right toward Kew Meadow Path. Turn right onto Kew Meadow Path and then right  onto Bessant Dr. At the roundabout, take the 1st exit and stay on Bessant Dr. Turn right to stay on Bessant Dr and the National Archives will be on your left side.
