Things to do on Holidays in Luxembourg City

Luxembourg or the Luxembourg city, is the capital of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and is located at the confluence of the Alzette and Petrusse Rivers in the south of the country. Apart from being an historic city, Luxembourg is one of the main tourism centres of the country and is well worth a visit if you are planning on having a European trip.

    Luxembourg American Cemetery Memorial is a beautiful and peaceful place. The cemetery is the final resting place of some 5,076 American service members and there are 22 graves of brothers adjacent to eachother.

    Philharmonie Luxembourg is an incredible building to say the least. The main auditorium is a work of art where you will get to hear some of the best music in town. Each experience is a great one for that matter.

    Viaduc (Passerelle) is a great spot if you are in for taking dramatic pictures. However, it is advisable to go there without decent walking shoes. And also make sure that you bring along hiking sticks with you.

    Casemates du Bock is one of the most historic places in the city and there are plenty of rooms and pathways to explore for an average tourist. The place is the symbol of how the Luxembourgers defended their city from neighbouring countries.

    Notre Dame Cathedral is a cathedral like no other in the country. The paintings here are very impressive and in the cathedral, they have also paid a nice tribute to the late Pope John Paul.

    Musee National d'Histoire et d'Art is located near the fish market and here you will come across everything that should be in a museum, from 3rd century Roman art to the late Italian Renaissance paintings by the likes of II Rosso who painted masterpieces like Venus et l’Amour.

    Palais Grand-Ducal is the residence of the Grand Ducal family and is located in the heart of the Old Town. The building is very well constructed and dominates its surroundings. Russian vases and French carpets are the only valuable items on display here.

    Petrusse Casemates are open to the general public only during summers and you can visit this place only with a guard which is actually a good thing as on your own, you can get lost beneath the city, thanks to the dark tunnels that have a lot of historical significance.

    Mudam Luxembourg Modern Art Museum is another major attraction of the city. The museum changes its exhibitions on a frequent basis. It is also a popular meeting point for youngsters.
