Waffles without an Iron Recipe

Making waffles with an iron seems to be quite an easy task. You just have to mix all the ingredients and then put them into the iron. They get baked and you can easily eat them whenever you like.

However, imagine making waffles without the iron. No one would want to try that, as it seems to be an impossible task. The fact of the matter is that it is quite possible to do so, but you should know the right technique. It may consume a little bit extra time, but that is not a problem at all.

If you do have a waffle maker, then it is better to use it. In case you are travelling somewhere or the iron is not working anymore, you don’t have to wait for the waffles, as they can still be made by following some simple steps.

Ingredients:
Unbleached, all-purpose, pastry, or cake flour. You can substitute whole wheat pastry flour up to Half of this amount: 2 cups (470 ml)
Salt (optional): 1 teaspoon (5 ml)
Baking powder: 2 teaspoons (10 ml)
Sugar: 2 tablespoons (30 ml)
Eggs, separate the yolks and the whites: 5
Milk (355 ml): 1 1/2 cups
Melted butter or oil. More oil will make crispier waffles: 2 to 5 tablespoons (30 – 75 ml)
Vanilla extract (optional): 1 to 2 teaspoons (5 – 10 ml)

    Mix all dry ingredients into a large bowl

    The first step is to take a bowl and add all the dry stuff to it. It is ideal to mix them together with your hands, but you can use a spoon as well.

    Beat the egg yolks and oil in a separate jar

    Separate the egg yolks from the albumen and add them to a different bowl with oil. Beat them for some time and then add milk to the mixture.

    Next thing is to combine the two mixtures you have made until now and make sure that the flour is fully moist.

    Now beat the egg white separately and you will get a creamy stuff. Add that to the flour and your final mixture will be ready.

    Since you won’t have the iron available, you can pour the mixture on a pan and cook it on a medium heat. Once it gets golden brown from both sides, you can serve it to everyone waiting for the waffles.
